DrumNation is based in and around Bristol, Bath and Somerset but will travel further afield if required.
DrumNation offers exuberant, dynamic and creative drum and percussion workshops tailored to suit the needs of a variety of different groups of all ages and abilities.
DrumNation also offers private drum kit tuition in varying styles, as well as recording session work on albums for artists of varying genres.
A Little About Me…
Known as Purple Josh for my love of wearing the colour, I also have a second love in my life; drumming!
I first discovered my love for drumming as a participant in a drum workshop at a festival at the age of 14. I was captivated by the power and the energy and enthralled by the facilitator leading the session. In the centre of the circle, he held every participant in the palm of his hand, with a passion that knew no bounds and a talent for recognising how the group wanted to be led. He took them on what can only be described as a musical journey, where everyone felt like a valued character part of a much larger storyline.
In that moment, I said to myself;
“This is great fun. Him, that Guy in the middle, I want to be that Guy!”
From there I spent my hard-earned pocket money from my first ever job on a djembe drum, which remains my precious first baby until this day, and I threw myself at it, playing it until my fingers bled. I also moved on to learning the drum kit and broke many a stick thrashing the living daylights out of the poor thing on a daily basis.
It’s safe to say that since then, my technique has matured somewhat and so thankfully blood and broken sticks are no longer a by-product of my passion, but the passion remains nonetheless.
I now do my best to try and emulate that first joyous experience I had for others, and I never fail to revel in the moment that I see someone else catch the bug. It can happen to anyone – whether you’re young and have barely even seen a drum let alone played one, or in your later years but have never had the confidence or opportunity to try drumming before.
No matter your age or ability, I will strive to give you the best experience possible. My patience, my empathy and my ability to share my passion are limitless – join me today for a friendly, fun-filled drumming experience!
